Electricity turbine undergoes repair

Electricity turbine undergoes repair at SITA Isle of Man

The electricity-generating turbine at the Energy from Waste (EfW) facility has been sent to a team of specialists in Germany for repair, after a design fault was identified during routine maintenance checks.

The facility is incinerating waste as normal but we are temporarily unable to generate electricity. We hope to be running as normal, supplying electricity to the island, by the beginning of August 2008.

The cost of repairing the turbine will be borne by SITA UK, not the Isle of Man Government. SITA UK has a contractual obligation to produce a minimum amount of electricity and when events such as this affect our ability to produce electricity, SITA UK compensates the Government for any shortfall.
