Emissions
The Department of Local Government and the Environment granted SITA Isle of Man a Waste Disposal Licence on the 14th of November 2003. The Licence authorises the sorting, storage, processing and incineration of waste.
The Waste Disposal Licence includes conditions that have to be complied with, and and emission limits are in line with the Waste Incineration Directive 2000/76/EC. The plant has been designed using state of the art proven technology to ensure that it can achieve this best European practice in waste incineration. These conditions include the continual monitoring of the cleaned flue gases, which are discharged to air via the 67m high chimney stack.
The discharge gases are continually monitored by the plant's Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) for:
- Particles
- Sulphur Dioxide
- Oxides of Nitrogen
- Carbon Monoxide
- Hydrogen Chloride
- Volatile Organic Compounds
The emissions monitoring page shows the daily average emission value displayed graphically for each of the above parameters, for the past 90 days. This data is updated daily.
